"Take Me Out To The Ballgame!"

10th Annual Matt Kolbe Memorial Baseball, Softball, Bean Bag Tournaments and Field of Dreams Game

9th Annual Matt Kolbe Memorial Baseball, Softball, Bean Bag Tournaments and Field of Dreams Game

The Matt Kolbe Memorial Baseball Tournament is embarking on its fourth year of existence. The tournament was started after the passing of very influential community figure in Matt Kolbe. Matt was a Down's Syndrome baseball fan who used his loving attitude to brighten everyone's day. Matt was the team manager for all of the Chilton Athletic Club's baseball teams, and this tournament is a major fundraiser for the Matt Kolbe Memorial Fund.

The 4th annual Matt Kolbe Memorial Baseball, Bean Bag, and Milk Bottle Tournament will take place at Nennig Park on July 11th and 12th. The day is expected to be filled with baseball, prizes, music, and lots of fun. The event the last few years has been an excellent way to keep Matt's memory alive, and we hope to continue that this year. What better way to do that than to spend it around the baseball diamond. Again this year, there will be a large bucket raffle, an appearance by the Jerry Schneider Band, tons of baseball and milk bottle games, sundaes, etc. Concessions will also be provided all weekend by the Chilton Athletic Club. Below is a rough breakdown of the weekend plans which are suspect to possible changes.

SHARE Program "Be Kind" Anti-Bullying Video

The Chilton High School SHARE Program created an anti-bullying video called "Be Kind".  The video features members of the program along with faculty promoting awareness of bullying in schools today.  The video is very powerful and brings many eyebrow raising statistics to the forefront.  The Matt Kolbe Memorial Fund is proud to assist with the making of this video.  A huge thank you goes out to Mr. Holze for creating it and to the students for helping put this together.

2012 Matt Kolbe Memorial Baseball Tournament

The 2nd annual Matt Kolbe Memorial Baseball Tournament took place over the July 13th and 14th weekend at Nennig Park in Chilton, WI.  The baseball filled day also included numerous other events such as a milk bottle tournament, bean bag tournament, numerous raffles and prizes, and a performance by the Jerry Schneider Band.  The Chilton Athletic Club was a huge reason for the event's success.  The baseball tournament consisted of 10 teams and players over a wide age range.  The tournament began on Friday, July 13th with several baseball games being played that night.  Following the exciting games, the Jerry Schneider Band lit up the park by providing some great music that Matt would have really enjoyed.  The atmosphere on Friday night was the perfect kickoff for the 2nd Matt Kolbe Memorial Baseball Tournament.
On Saturday, July 14th, there were even more events in store for families and friends of all ages.  There were numerous baseball games played during the day culminating in some very competitive Championship games.  At the end of the day, all coaches and players enjoyed the additional baseball for their teams.  Each player in the tournament received a complimentary 2012 Matt Kolbe Memorial Baseball Tournament T-shirt courtesy of the Chilton AC's.  In between baseball games, fans, spectators, and players came together for a balloon release to remember the real reason why we all came together that weekend.  The ceremony was a touching way to remember Matt's life and his contribution to the community.  The entire ballpark joined in the singing of Matt's favorite song "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" as the ceremony came to an end.  As for events other than baseball, the Milk Bottle Tournament has become a mainstay at the event in its first two years.  Again, the competition was tough as participants were challenged to knock the bottles down.  The event consisted of 16 five-person teams and ran well into the night providing a fun alternative to the baseball games.  New to the tournament this year was a single elimination Bean Bag "cornhole" tournament.  This tournament consisted of 32 two-person teams and provided some entertainment for all.  Both the Milk Bottle and Bean Bag tournaments provided some low-cost fun and resulted in some nice prize packages for the winners.
After all of the tournaments had been completed, the much-anticipated bucket raffle drawings ended the weekend giving away a 32" LCD television, a gas grill, sporting goods, sports tickets, and many other donated prizes.  The event concluded on Saturday night as a huge success and great improvement from the past year's tournament.  "Each year, we hope to add something new and make the event just how Matt would have wanted it," stated Luke Kolbe.  The tournament raised a generous amount for the Matt Kolbe Memorial Fund which will be put to some great causes (see the About Us and News pages for recent contributions).  The most important thing was that everyone enjoyed their time and came together to celebrate Matt's way of life.  The Kolbe family would like to thank everyone that helped to make the weekend a major success.  The tournament could not have happened without the help of family, friends, players, fans, and everyone else that contributed.
